Springfield Commissioner race to be decided in May Election

Springfield, OR –  Grupo Latino de Acción Directa of Lane County has set March 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30p.m. for their Springfield County Commissioner Forum to be held at Springfield Public Library.

According to the U.S. Census, the Latinx community makes up more than 12.2% of Springfield residents, the largest minority voting bloc in Lane County.  The Latinx community was critical in 2016’s Springfield City Council race where Leonard Stoehr defeated Dave Ralston by more than 10% points - many of which votes were from the Latinx Community.

“I look forward to the candidate forum, I am excited at the opportunity to build a strong connection with the LatinX community in Springfield. I share their values and look forward to a discussion of county issues.” said Joe Berney in a prepared statement. “I look forward to a lively debate with my opponent.”

Berney’s campaign has earned the endorsement from nearly every group in the progressive pantheon. The Springfield Commissioner race is the most competitive race this cycle with big money weighing in on both sides. Berney boasts a small fundraising lead and favorable electoral demographics in a year where Democrats are flipping seats at all levels of government.
